Grab Your Passport! We’re Going To Europe.

Europe here we come! This summer me, my sister and cousin will travel through Europe visiting Germany, Netherlands, France and Italy. (insert happiest emoji)

Below are maps with circles highlighting places we will visit within each country. Flights are booked, passports are ready, but there is so much more to be done. My biggest challenge will definitely be packing. One suitcase for three weeks … how will I survive? I have already dreamt about packing, forgetting everything and almost missing the flight trying to pack last minute. The trip is in July, but I should start practice packing tomorrow.

Ahhh! I’m so excited. mgermany mfranceitaly_states_map

I Reached Two Milestones This Week. It’s a Celebration!!!

happybirthday2Tuesday marked 1 year since the birth of kinkycurlsLA.com, yay (see the first post here)!!! And… Wednesday marked my 2 year naturalversary (see 1 year naturalversary post here)! It’s a celebration, I want a cupcake.

This journey has been awesome and I’ve learned so much. Kinkycurlsla will continue to evolve and improve as I grow and figure out how to better serve you guys. I appreciate you all. Thank you for your support! Please feel comfortable enough to share your opinions, content requests, and ask questions.

As for the hair… If you follow me on Instagram, you saw that I cut my hair on August 31. I will reveal the reasons for the cut in a Youtube video on Monday.

Have a great weekend! Take a shot for me. xoxo

I don’t lead, I follow.

As kids, being line leader was only thee most important job. When did we stop wanting to be line leader and settle for following?

Did it happened in middle school when most of us decided that fitting in is much cooler than standing out?  Maybe being a leader comes with too much responsibility. What do you think?

I wonder what the world would be like today if people like Dr. King decided not to lead.

A special thanks to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and President Barack Obama for continuing to lead.

Natural/Curly Hair Salons

hair_salon_dajte-599x400

Quite a few people have asked me for natural hair salon referrals, so I’ve compiled this list. It will be permanently placed under the ‘Curl Talk’ tab as ‘Salons & Stylists’. Additions will be added as discovered.

So far, I have not been to any of the listed salons, but I’ve met a few stylists at events. I typically do my own hair. Feel free to ask questions.

Keep it kinky! xoxo

Stuff My Mouth w/ Blu Jam

IMG_2860 Breakfast Quesadilla $14.95 & Crunchy French Toast $12.95

That moment you close your mouth and hear the angels sing as your taste buds party like Paris Hilton in 2004.

Yes, Blu Jam Cafe’s Crunchy French Toast are that delicious (as my mouth waters), the breakfast quesadilla is not too bad either. The servings are huge. We went halfsies and there were a couple leftover French toast. It is safe to say that this could feed two adults and one small child.

The tasty goods outshined the service, our server seemed a little preoccupied.

Blu Jam in located in Los Angeles on Melrose and in Sherman Oaks on Ventura Blvd. (We chowed there).

Operation Gratitude sends 100,000+ care packages each year to U.S. Service Members deployed in hostile regions, their children left behind, veterans, first responders, wounded warriors and their care givers.  Packages are individually addressed and filled with snacks, letters of appreciation, personal and entertainment items.

Packages are  assembled at the Army National Guard Armory in Van Nuys, California for safety and security. Since its inception in 2003, Operation Gratitude has shipped more than 915,000 packages.

In February, Be A Light volunteers spent the morning assisting Operation Gratitude with “Prep” and “Assembly Day” tasks.

Prep” work includes sorting donated items, folding shirts, screening letters, and otherwise preparing the products for Assembly Days. In addition, if time allows,  instructions and materials are provided  for making Paracord Survival Bracelets.

Assembly Day” work includes production of the care packages, labeling, taping, letter reading and writing, running packages, re-stocking the lines and breaking down cartons.

Check us out in action below.
