Finger Detangling 101

finger detangling: the process of removing tangles and knots from hair using fingers in place of a comb and/or other tools.

I mentioned that I finger detangle in the post titled  My Hair Regimen. By finger detangling we tend to lose less hair than detangling with tools. Below HeyFranHey provides a step by step break down of how to do it.

High Puff Tutorial via Coloured Beautiful

I gave you my current hair regimen in my last post. Realizing that some viewers may have no idea how to achieve the high puff, I thought it would be smart to give you guys a tutorial. Below is Coloured Beautiful’s video, I learned from it. My process is slightly different, so I will do my own tutorial soon. Enjoy!

My Hair Regimen

This is what works for my hair right now, it’s not guaranteed to work the same for you. Find out what works for your hair texture , lifestyle & climate through trial and error. As you  learn more about your hair you’ll figure out what works best.

Below is my alternating weekly regimen. It changes if I do a different hairstyle. You’ll catch me with a high puff about 90 percent of the time but I plan to do more protective styling this year.

Week 1

Day 1 (Wash Day, usually Sunday evening)

-Wash hair w/ Joico Reconstructer Shampoo (apply shampoo to scalp and move suds through to ends)

-Deep Condition w/ Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque (do not rinse out)

-Finger detangle by section

– As I detangle each section I spray a little water, apply a small amount of Tropic Isle Living’s Jamaican Black Castor Oil Hair Food to the hair and scalp making sure to get the ends.

-Then I allow it to air dry over night. When I’m ready for bed I cover it w/ a satin bonnet

Day 2

– Unravel the twists/braids

–  Style it in a high puff  and go

– At night tie it with a silk scarf

Day 3

– Remove scarf and re-shape hair by pulling it

– Spray w/ a little water to add moisture

– At night tie w/ a silk scarf

Day 4

Repeat Day 3

Day 5

I may need to spray sides w/ water, add a little gel and Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie if  hair is out of place hair. If not just Repeat Day 3

Day 6

Repeat Day 3

Day 7

Week 2

Day 1

-Co-wash hair w/ Mane & Tail Conditioner & rinse out

-Apply generous amount of Mane ‘n Tail Conditioner

-Finger detangle by section w/ Mane & Tale Conditioner

– Rinse out Mane ‘n Tail w/ cold water

-Dry hair w/ cotton t-shirt (leave hair slightly damp)

-Apply a small amount of Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie in hands, rub together, then apply to hair

-By section do the following before braiding or twisting

-Apply a small amount of water and apply a small amount of Tropic Isle Living’s Jamaican Black Castor Oil Hair Food

-Allow braids or twists to dry over night. When I’m ready for bed I cover it w/ a satin bonnet

Day 2
