Unlike most people, I watched zero trailers for The Best Man Holiday. Honestly, I did not expect much, but planned to support it. I own the original on dvd and I have watched it so much that I think the characters are real people… I just could not picture a sequel.
On Saturday, I walked in the theatre without expectations and took my seat toward the front of the theatre (someone purchased tickets on the late freight). If you have ever been to the theatre with me, you know I like sitting towards the back and smack dab in the center of the row.
Lights out and phones off! The movie began by taking us back to where we last saw our friends, so nostalgic. I felt all the emotions rushing back. That Lance is one fine specimen and Shelby still irks me, but I digress.
The Best Man Holiday is so worth every penny and minute of attention. I think that I may even like the second more than the original, go figure!
Malcolm D. Lee and the team did an amazing job. Cue the standing ovation. I laughed out loud (not silently, like most LOLs), I wanted to cry, sung (in my head), and cheered. I and what seemed like the entire theater enjoyed catching up with our old friends.
Have you seen it? If so, what are your thoughts?
Master of surprise, prankster, ballsy and jokester are all terms used to describe me. After Christmas and my birthday, April Fools’ is my next favorite holiday. If scaring others was an Olympic sport, I would for sure own a gold medal.
With revenge always lurking around the corner, I stay on guard and uneasy to scare or surprise. It is pretty safe to say that I am not a scaredy cat, but I pulled both hands really close to my face for a few seconds while watching The Conjuring.
Either I am getting a little soft or the movie fulfilled its purpose, you be the judge. It will be in theaters on July 19. If you are on a mission to scare the unafraid, then take them to see The Conjuring and let me know what happens.
The film is pretty solid, but there were a couple scenes that caused the entire audience to snicker. Those were “Really! Are you serious?” moments.
Watch the trailer below.
L.A. LIVE is an entertainment complex located in downtown Los Angeles, across from the Staples Center. During the holiday season L.A. LIVE is home to the beautifully lit outdoor Kings Holiday Ice rink. This year the rink opened Nov. 24 and closed Jan. 2.
On New Year’s night, I went skating with family. My sisters and cousin left with ice on their heads and backs because they started a war with my brother. It’s not smart to throw ice at guy that can out skate you, even if you guys out number him.
Skating is always fun, especially before the ice gets crowded. I learned to do a twirl, so I left happy. I should have recorded the dozens of people falling and made a Youtube video… maybe next year.
The holiday chaos is over, so I am getting back on track. Bare with me as I play catch up. There are a few events that took place waaaay back in 2012 but I want to share them with you.
Below are pictures from Echoes of Hope’s ‘Be A Light’ project in December. We sung Christmas Carols to the seniors at Culver Village in Culver City, CA. The residents enjoyed it. Our group won the unofficial “Most Festive” award.
The last picture is the Circuit Board tying bows on candy canes and preparing for the project a few days before.
Staying in Los Angeles for the holidays? One of the best places to visit is the movie theatre (I kid you not). Why? Most of the East Coast transplants are gone, tourists are scarce and natives wander out of the city too. What this boils down to is you lounging in best seats in an empty theatre. Feel free to kick up your feet and relax while eating the snacks you bought in the V.I.P. line (or what seems like one). Pretend that it is your personal home theatre.
On Christmas day, I will spend 5 minutes in not traffic to check out Django Unchained, the new Tarantino film starring Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington and Samuel L. Jackson.
Check out the trailer, storyline and photos below all courtesy of 135th Street Agency.
Set in the South two years before the Civil War, DJANGO UNCHAINED stars Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz). Shultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle bothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Shultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles – dead or alive. Success leads Shultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Shultz seeks out the South’s most wanted criminals with Django by his side.
Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago. Django and Shultz’s search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Academy Award nominee Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of “Candyland,” an infamous plantation. Exploring the compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz arouse the suspicion of Stephen (Academy Award nominee Samuel L. Jackson), Candie’s trusted house slave. Their moves are marked, and a treacherous organization closes in on them. If Django and Schultz are to escape with Broomhilda, they must choose between independence and solidarity, between sacrifice and survival.
