#CurlyCartel Holiday Cheer for Charity (w/ Video)
On Tuesday Dec. 17, the #CurlyCartel Christmas-Holiday Cheer for Charity event honored the talented Tracee Ellis Ross and Teyonah Parris. A portion of event ticket sells benefited Downtown Women’s Center.
The pink carpet affair, held at Planet Dailies Los Angeles, offered women a chance to shop vendors for the holidays, enjoy complimentary appetizers, a fully-stock bar, and encouraged women to embrace their natural beauty.
Honorees received “Women of Brilliance” awards, were showered with gifts, and love. The custom illustrations and personalized stationary presented to honorees and #CurlyCartel founders made Cotton Candy Playground a crowd favorite (see video below).
Curls & Cocktails
The celebration was hot, literally! Despite the heat, I relished in the merriment as we honored celebrity natural hair stylists Dr. Kari Williams, Felicia Leatherwood, African Creature and Adele Supreme.
It is always a pleasure to mingle with women sharing and embracing natural beauty. I met new curlfriends and connected with fellow LA Curly Girls. Good times!

MegaGrowth & Ebony.com Host Poolside Beauty Chat
Growing up, my definition of beauty was heavily influenced by media standards. I failed to embrace the differences that make us unique. My ignorance helped to create a perception that dictated my behavior and interactions.
Today, I am proud to celebrate images and attributes that I found embarrassing and/or bashed. Embracing my own natural beauty has changed my perspective and is one of the best choices I have ever made.
Honored to be part of this amazing movement, I love opportunities to connect with other amazing women redefining beauty.
On Thursday night, natural hair and beauty bloggers/editors gathered at the upscale Sofitel Los Angeles for a beauty chat hosted by MegaGrowth and Ebony.com. I had a blast chatting about hair care, makeup, fitness and philanthropy with those in attendance.
Guests enjoyed delicious gourmet hors d’ oeuvres, complimentary drinks and received MegaGrowth swags bags. The summer inspired beach totes included three full-sized products that smell yummy. Look out for a review.

When I was a young girl
I had visions of fame
They were wild and they were free
They were blessed with my name…
I L.O.V.E. that song!
Anyway, one of my visions included attending Spelman College and stomping across campus chanting “Oo-ooop!” with the Delta’s or “Skee wee!” with the AKA’s. None of that happened. I missed the undergrad pledge opportunity, but at the end of 2011, I kind of joined a sorority called the natural hair movement.
I imagine the sisterhood, empowerment and bonding is pretty similar to a sorority. Don’t burst my bubble! (insert side eye)
Last month, my friend Angela hosted about two handfuls of her curlfriends for an au naturale girls day. It included girl talk, bonding, motivation, hair makeovers, sharing tips, a product exchange, yummy healthy food and adult refreshments.
I thoroughly enjoyed the experience (minus sitting under the dryer) and gained a few new curlfriends. Good times!

Curly Cartel, a community created to encourage women to embrace their natural beauty, held its first event on March 3, 2013. The event, hosted by creators Miss Dunnie O and Ms. J Gray, was held at Confidential Beverly Hills and featured notable natural hair/beauty panelists, food and beauty vendors.
Overall, I’d say the event was a success. More than 100 women with different curl patterns, shapes, sizes and backgrounds were provided a positive space to experience, learn and grow.
Attendees were able to get answers to puzzling questions, while snacking on tasty treats and receiving complimentary mini makeovers.
Between stuffing my face with “Healthy Bites” and “Signature Sweets”, I had the pleasure of meeting Miss Dunnie O, Dr. Kari Williams (Mahogany Revolution), Chef Ameera (chefameera), Chef Vita Love (chefameera), Ashley Blaine Featherson (Actress), Tia Muhammad (Neon Pink Magazine), Rosalyn Lockhart (Fierce Phaces), Ferriss Mason (UrbnVntg) and a new curlfriend Corene.
Check out the photos below and feel free to ask questions. Oh! And I recommend you try the following…
1. Chef Ameera‘s kale salad and roasted herb & veggie quinoa
2. Strawberry Kouture‘s cheesecake covered strawberry
3. Creole Primas‘ chocolate cake pop
